Stand and be Accounted

Paying tax can be a taxing affair. It proved too difficult for pretty much every single high-net-worth individual and company in 2014, so why should anyone? Call me the British Che Guevara, a modern day Robin Hood, a Spartacus for the post-industrial age – I decided I couldn’t sit idly by and let HSBC get away with (effectively) murder. It was time to make a stand.

I sent a few emails to a woman named Margaret who works at HMRC, the UK’s tax collection authority, who didn’t find my attempt at tax avoidance very amusing at all.

If you’re wondering why there’s a large blank space at the bottom of her email it’s because she had a massive, ostentatious rich-banner type logo which I would have guessed was not strictly HMRC regulation. I’ve removed it because I can’t afford another legal battle with a UK government agency.
